About Assembly Legislature E-petitions

Empowering Tobagonians Through E-Petitions

Our E-Petitions platform gives the people of Tobago a direct voice in governance. Registered voters can create and submit petitions on issues that matter to them, ensuring that concerns from the public are formally presented to the Assembly Legislature.

Every petition submitted is carefully reviewed to ensure it meets the required standards before being published. Once approved, Tobagonians and residents can show their support by signing — with each person allowed to sign only once — helping to build collective civic engagement around important issues.

From Public Support to Assembly Action

We believe that every voice matters, and our process is designed to turn public support into real action.

All published petitions are reviewed by the office of the Clark, which examines key issues raised and may engage with stakeholders, organizations, or the petition creator to gather further insight.

  • 150 signatures: The Executive Council provides an official response
  • 300 signatures: The petition is considered for debate in the Assembly Legislature

Petitions that reach the required threshold may be scheduled for debate, though this depends on legislative priorities and whether similar matters have already been addressed. In some cases, petitions may even be considered earlier, with opportunities for public participation such as discussions or committee evidence.

Transparent Standards, Meaningful Impact

To maintain integrity and effectiveness, all petitions must meet clear standards. Petitions must:

  • Call for a specific action from the Executive Council or the Tobago House of Assembly
  • Address matters within the responsibility of the Tobago House of Assembly
  • Respect the platform guidelines while allowing constructive criticism or policy challenges

Petitions that do not meet these requirements are not published, but feedback is provided along with guidance on alternative ways to raise the issue.

Through this transparent and structured process, we ensure that every petition has the potential to contribute meaningfully to policy discussion, public accountability, and the democratic development of Tobago.
